Orust - The greatest island on the west coast

Orust is the largets island on the West Coast of Sweden and the third largest in the country. It is situated about 36 miles north of Gothenburg and 18 miles south-west of Uddevalla. Bridges connect the island to the mainland, providing easy communication. You can also reach the island by one of the two ferry routes operating from the mainland.

There are several small communities on Orust, and although it s a rural area it has a fairly big population. The island has an area of about 45 square miles, and boasts an extremely varied natural scenery. There the visitor can see and enjoy a coastal scenery with barren yet inspiring rocks, fields of heather, oak forests, open agricultural landscape, and conifers and lakes.
