This is how we live
The considerable population growth has, of course, resulted in an extensive programme of housing development, chiefly in the larger communities, but also in the smaller villages and in the countryside. The most common forms of living has been in small, self-contained houses and also in tenancy-right apartments and in blocks of flats. But there are now alternative forms of tentant-owner dwellings in many of the communities on the island. It can be said, without exaggeration, that there are enough alternative ways of living on the island to suit every taste.
The municipality of Orust has more or less invested in all the communities on the island. On Orust we have proved that it is possible to live in a small community and enjoy a high level of public service. We are fully aware that Orust is principally a place where many people want to live - thanks to the fantastic natural surroundings, the living environment, and the proximity to many different forms of recreation facilities. Add to that the nearness to large shopping and service centres on the mainland, a relatively large number of service offered in all communities - even the smaller ones - and you will understand why our style of living is attractive.  |
