Leisure and Culture

There is a wide range of cultural activities to choose from. These include libraries, of course, but also theatres, cinemas, art exhibitions and musical concerts of various kinds. Other cultural features we boast, are local arts and crafts museums, various monuments depicting the history of civilisation on the island, and ancient monuments.

Many people spend their leisure time in the municipality. During the summer, the population is tripled.

There are more than 6,000 leisure home owners who have found their holiday paradise on the island. And in July especially, there is something of an invasion by holiday makers who spend just a short time on Orust.

Bathing

Tourists visit our municipality chiefly to take advantage of bathing in salt water, to experience the smell of seaweed, or just to lie on a rock and see the sun go down beyond the horizon. We can offer bathing in beautiful natural creeks and barren sundrenched flat rocks. The municipality also has 15 specially arranged bathing centres, 3 of which are especially adapted for invalids.

Boating

For visitors by boat Orust offers fjords that are easy to navigate, protected channels surrounded by a varied natural scenery, from rocks continually washed by the sea in the west to the shady beaches of the fjords.

The coastal community's guest harbours, with shops, post offices and banks, provide boaters with the necessary services, and the many small islands and beaches around Orust offer both well-known natural harbours as well as one's own private creek.
